Tibet working for tourist

Wang Songping, deputy head of the Tourism Bureau of Tibet, said China's Tibet Autonomous Region received a record number of 5.27 million tourists in the first 10 months of this year. That included 152,077 travelers from abroad, a growth of 168.8% over the same period of last year, and 5.12 million domestic tourists, up 154%.

The tourist flow generated approximately $652 million in tourism revenue for the region during the 10 months, up 125.4% year-on-year.

Travel agencies in Tibet are trying to attract more visitors during Tibet's traditional new year holiday, which begins on February 14 next year.

As the traditional new year falls on the same day as the Chinese lunar new year, i.e., the Spring Festival, and Valentine's Day, a strong effort is being made to attract over 2,000 domestic and foreign tourists to mark the occasion.

China View reports that Tibet will focus on promoting its three world-class scenic spots, namely, the Potala Palace, Mt. Qomolangma and the Yarlung Zangbo Canyon as part of this campaign to encourage winter tourism.
