Promoting the development of tourism
November 27, 2009: China's State Council, the Cabinet, has announced plans to push forward the development of the tourism industry and make it a strategic pillar industry in the national economy.
China's State Council, the Cabinet and therefore the voice of the government, has called for improved service and management in the tourism sector. It wants it to consume less resources and, at the same time, generate more job opportunities. This according to a statement released after a State Council executive meeting, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao (seen in our illustration).
The statement said that greater efforts should be made to improve tourism infrastructure and enhance the training of personnel in the industry.
China View reports the government will lower the market threshold to encourage enterprises at various levels of ownership to invest in the sector.
The statement called for collaborative development between the tourism sector and the related industries and interests, including culture, sports, agriculture, industry, forestry, environmental protection and meteorological sector.
The statement also demanded greater efforts in protecting the eco-system, indigenous environment and historical and cultural heritage.
