Accounts from China and Vietnam paint vastly different pictures of the latest incident in disputed waters of the South China Sea, Reuters reported. The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that two Chinese rubber dinghies took control of a Vietnamese fishing boat near the Parcel islets last month, took property, destroyed the boat and beat up the fishermen. China’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying countered yesterday by claiming that two Vietnamese boats had been using explosives to fish in disputed waters, which Chinese personnel confiscated. She made no mention of other Vietnamese vessels.
