Jiang invited to visit US

1 March 2002

Vice foreign minister Li Zhaoxing was reported by a Chinese website as saying that Washington had invited President Jiang Zemin to visit the US later this year, South China Morning Post said. It would be a 'working visit' rather than a state one, with Jiang staying briefly in the US and only visiting a few cities.

US President George WBush spent two days in China in February as part of a six-day visit that also took in Japan and South Korea.
