China and Nigeria sign food agreement

China and Nigeria have signed a US$23m agreement to co-operate in sharing food security knowledge, Reuters reported. China will provide 20 experts and more than 500 field technicians to work alongside Nigerian experts over a four-year period. They will implement activities aimed at safeguarding food security, including water control projects, production systems to boost crops and diversification of production.

The pact is part of a global initiative to strengthen collaboration between countries. The full cost of the programme will be met by the Nigerian government.
