Pilkington plant to make flat-panel glass

Shareholders of Shanghai Yaohua Pilkington Glass have approved a plan to buy technology from its UK partner Pilkington to enable it to produce glass for flat-panel display screens, reported Bloomberg. Yaohua Pilkington will pay US$18m for a licence from Pilkington to make glass in thicknesses between 0.4mm and 1.1mm for liquid crystal displays. The screens are used in computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices.
