Increase in number of lawyers

The All-China Lawyers Association, meeting in Shanghai, was told that the number of licensed legal practitioners in China was now 110,000, up from a mere 200 in 1982. The association's general secretary, Jia Wuguang, also told members that China now had nearly 10,000 law offices, including specialists in finance, securities and property. So far, 104 foreign law firms and 28 Hong Kong law firms have opened offices in China.
