Shangri-La expands in Sanya

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has signed a contract to open its first full beach resort in China. The Sunny Bay Resort in Sanya, Hainan province, will offer 505 rooms and suites and 50 villas when it opens in 2005. Recreational facilities will include a 1,500 sq metre spa and fitness facility and a water sports centre. The group's joint venture partner is Sanya Sunny Bay Development Co.
Shangri-La is offering savings of up to 40 per cent at its 16 mainland properties until the end of August. Special rates including breakfast range from US$57 in Beihai to US$168 at the Pudong Shangri-La.
