China's government has approved an aircraft manufacturing joint venture between Brazil's Embraer and China Aviation Industry Corp II, China Daily said. The joint venture, which would be based in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, would produce 50-seater regional aircraft.

The report followed an announcement by China's other aircraft manufacturer, China Aviation Industry Corp I, that it would spend Yn5bn to develop a 72-79 seat regional jet aircraft. The new aircraft would undergo flight trials by 2005 and be on sale by 2007.
