A Yn10bn expansion project at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport will start next year, confirmed the Shanghai Airport Authority. The facility will be expanded and a second runway and a new terminal building added.

The airport is home to both China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines and is designed to accommodate four runways and handle 80m passengers a year. From October 28 this year, all the city's international flights, including those to Hong Kong and Macau, will be handled by Pudong. The older Hongqiao Airport will concentrate solely on domestic flights.
