US-style mall for Beijing

Beijing's first 'US-style' shopping mall is being built in the suburbs of the city at a cost of Yn3.1bn. The 37-hectare site being developed by Da Di Group will become a shopping, entertainment and leisure complex with up to 8,000 car parking spaces. Facilities will include a swimming pool, skating rink and cinemas, in addition to department stores and four large supermarkets.

The mall will be located in the Yizhuang Economic Technology Zone, close to the Beijing-Tianjin expressway and the fifth ring road. Phase one should open in 2003.
