Yakult Honsha plans to start full-scale production and sales of its lactobacillus drinks in China, reported Nikkei, adding that the Chinese market was the cornerstone of its overseas strategy.

The Japanese company said it would build five new factories on the mainland over the next five years and would quadruple output at its existing plant in Guangzhou. It will also recruit local "Yakult ladies" to sell door-todoor to homes and workplaces.
