Plan to launch Shanghai-Cairns service

Australian Airlines said it plans to launch a direct service between Shanghai and Cairns in late October. The Qantas Airlines subsidiary said talks were ongoing with the Chinese government but it was optimistic of securing approval to operate the service.

Currently, no Australian carrier operates a service to the mainland, Qantas having withdrawn from the market in 2001.
