DVD-makers move to China

Japan's Toshiba and Pioneer plan to start output in China of digital electronics prod-ucts such as DVD recorders
for sale in mar-kets worldwide. Nikkei said. Toshiba has founded a souware development
centre at its television manufacturing subsidiary Dalian Toshiba Television, which will, in
co-opera-tion with a local software house, develop software for handling digital
images.
Pioneer has assembled a team of about 70 engineers at a Shanghai
production sub-sidiary that is to develop a DVD player that will retail for about Yn
1.390.
