The Hongshui River in Guangxi province is to be blocked in early November as part of the construction of the 4,200MW Longtan hydropower plant. Some 6,000 residents in the dam area are to be relocated, reported Xinhua.

"The blocking will be a milestone, marking the turning point from the basic digging period to dam-building period," said Long Xianjin, deputy general manager of the Longtan Hydropower Development Co. The plant will cost Yn24.3bn to build.
