Shiseido plans 5,000 China stores

The scheme represents a major shift from its 20-year-old strategy of selling through counters in department stores. Within five years, it hopes, China will have overtaken Japan and the US to become its largest market, with annual sales of US$910m. Short term plans include five China stores by the end of this year, a US$30m China holding company and the creation of a beauty school to promote its cosmetic culture.
