The SARS hangover

Guangdong, the busiest point of entry for foreign visitors to China, is still waiting for a full recovery from SARS for its tourist industry. Officials said that traveler numbers from most of Asia had reached a satisfactory level but American, Japanese and European tourists are still staying away. The province expects visitor numbers to return to 70% of their pre-SARS level after the Chinese New Year holiday.
