Insurance premiums soaring

Premiums at Chinese insurers rose 27% in 2003 to RMB 388 billion, thanks to robust demand for products which return investment dividends and expanded distribution through banks.

The China Insurance Regulatory Commission said sales of health-related insurance soared 114% to RMB 20.19 billion in the first 10 months of last year, in part as a reaction to SARS.
