Lanzhou plans US$337m gas power plant

China approved a feasibility plan to build a US$337 million natural gas power plant in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, which will replace as many as 334 coal-fired boilers. The plant will be supplied gas from the Sebei gas field in Qinghai Province. It will be equipped with a 600-megawatt generator and a system to transmit excess heat to Lanzhou homes. A joint venture between Meiya (Lanzhou) Power Co, the Asian Infrastructure Fund and two overseas firms will fund and construct the plant, which could begin operation by 2007.
