Toshiba to shift notebook production

Toshiba Corp plans to move the entirety of its notebook computer production to its operations in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, according to Japanese media reports. Toshiba will move notebook production from the Philippines and Japan to Hangzhou, where production capacity will be boosted from the current 1.5 million units per year to 3 million units by Japan's fiscal year 2005, the reports said. In addition to its own production at the Hangzhou facility, Toshiba will outsource 40% of its notebook production to Taiwanese manufacturers, the report added.
