SABMiller makes Harbin takeover offer

SABMiller made a US$391 million unsolicited takeover bid for Harbin Brewery Group days after rival Anheuser-Busch acquired 29% of the Chinese brewer. SABMiller, which holds a 29.6% stake in Harbin Brewery, said that its offer for the shares of Harbin Brewery that it doesn?t own hinges on its ability to gain a majority stake in the brewer. SABMiller officials said they had not spoken with Anheuser-Busch, the world's largest brewer.
