Foreign direct investment still climbs

Actual foreign direct investment (FDI) rose 12% year on year to US$34 billion in the first half of 2004, the Ministry of Commerce said. Contracted FDI rose 43% year on year to US$73 billion, the ministry said. As the state sector shrinks, China hopes FDI can generate 14 million private sector jobs a year.
