The Jiangsu Expressway is expected to lose 20% of its traffic this year due to a RMB 10.54 billion (US$1.26bn) expansion project which is causing traffic to be diverted from the Shanghai-Nanjing expressway. Daily traffic has been reduced by 30% and revenue by 40% since road widening began in June. Jiangsu Expressway saw a 51.1% increase in profits year on year before the beginning of the expansion project. When the project is completed in mid-2005, traffic volume is projected to increase by 40%.
