Honda looks to make hybrid in China

Japanese carmaker Honda is looking at plans to build fuel-efficient hybrid cars in China in the near future, a senior company executive said. Zeng Qinghong, executive vice-president of Honda's Guangdong-based JV, said that the plans were dependent on cost and demand for hybrids in China reaching company requirements. The company would look to build a hybrid version of its Accord sedan for the China market. Hybrids use a combination of conventional gasoline and electrical engines to boost fuel efficiency and cut emissions. Recently General Motors announced a deal with its JV partner, SAIC, to commercialize Hybrid technology and Toyota announced it would soon start building its popular Prius hybrid in China.
