China to subsidize farmers with RMB5.5b

In an effort to mitigate grain shortages and to shrink the income gap between rural and urban citizens, Beijing will implement a US$665m agricultural subsidy package this year to encourage more grain production, state media reported, citing China's vice finance minister. Last year, farming income grew 6.8% and grain production rose 9%.
