April CPI up 1.8%

China's April consumer-price index rose 1.8% from a year earlier, its slowest pace this year, well below economists' expectations of a 2%+ rise and scuttling the prospects of a near-term interest-rate rise, media reports stated. The mild inflation rate was due to stabilizing food prices and declines in grain prices.
