CPI rises 2%

China's inflation rate remained at a 19-month low as May's consumer price index rose 1.8% from a year ago, according to government data. The data has fueled expectations that the central bank will seek to spur consumer spending by refraining from interest-rate hikes. Meat prices rose while prices of grain, clothing and household appliances fell.
