In a plan to speed up the northern China Internet connection to overseas websites Beijing approved building an underwater cable linking Qingdao to a submarine network, the Financial Times reported. Asia Netcom, the international cable arm of state-controlled China Netcom, will finish the 350km cable by early next year. Information passing through the cable will still pass through an Internet "gateway" censoring data and monitoring traffic.
