Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Chinese President Hu Jintao signed an economic cooperation accord Tuesday, state media reported, without releasing details. Zimbabwe is in the throes of a financial crisis and Mugabe is a virtual pariah in the West because of his forced eviction of white commercial farmers from their land. He has turned to China, an old friend, for assistance and Beijing duly rolled out the red carpet. The two leaders also signed an MOU to finance building a power plant in the African country.
