GM weighs legal action against Jiangling

General Motors may take legal action against Jiangling Motors, a Chinese partner of Ford, after Jiangling began exporting its "Land Wind" vehicle to Europe, a model that GM says could be a copy of one of its off-road vehicles, the Frontera, the Financial Times reported. Jiangling denies copying anything from GM, saying the company conducts its own R&D. While no decision has been made regarding legal actions, GM's decision will be complicated by relationships with its Asian partners. GM's Chinese partner, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, has partial ownership of Jiangling Motors Corp, Jiangling's listed arm, and JMC is in a joint venture to make trucks with Isuzu, a GM partner in Japan and the original source of the Frontera design.
