Hu: We pose no threat

Against a background of China's rapid arms buildup, President Hu Jintao assured members of the Pacific Rim forum in Pusan, South Korea, that this country poses no threat to peace. He told the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting that "non-traditional security issues, such as terrorism, financial risks and natural disasters, threaten the existence and development of mankind." Hu did not mention bird flu.
