China top for jailing journalists

The Committee for the Protection of Journalists declared in New York that China and Cuba led the world in jailing journalists, but the United States joined the list in 2005 tying with Burma, AFP reported. The CPJ listed 125 editors, writers, and photographers imprisoned worldwide to December 1. China topped the list with 32 jailed, followed by Cuba with 24. The African nations of Eritrea and Ethiopia came next with 15 and 13 respectively. The US holds five in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, rising to sixth place behind Uzbekistan. Half of China's cases were bloggers.
