McKinsey urges efficient healthcare
24 January 2006
McKinsey & Company said China should enhance incentives for doctors and clarify treatment guidelines to reduce wasted health resources, the Financial Times reported. More private insurance products should be encouraged to meet rising demand for urban healthcare and reduce the government's share of costs, the consulting firm said in a report. Chinese patients spend 10 days in hospital for an appendectomy, for example, compared with six in Korea and four in India, said McKinsey, calling for such gaps to be closed.
