Editor challenges Party for axing weekly

In an open letter threatening to take the case of the closure of the Bingdian Weekly to the Communist Party's disciplinary committee, editor Li Datong protested the shutdown as many mainland reporters expressed anger over censorship in chat-room messages, blogs and emails, reported the South China Morning Post. One website was organizing a petition while journalists proposed raising money for a legal challenge. An offending Bingdian article by a professor questioned the official history of the Boxer Rebellion and of the Communist-Kuomintang cooperation in World War II. Other articles, one outlining Taiwan's arguments for separate status, also sparked anger from the Communist Party's propaganda department.
