Media freedom watchdog Reporters Sans Frontieres has slammed Yahoo for delivering data to mainland authorities that resulted in the imprisonment of political dissident subscriber Li Zhi, AFP reported. The 35-year-old former civil servant from Dazhou was sentenced in December 2003 to eight years for subversion based on electronic records provided by Yahoo, the group alleged. Yahoo said it was not aware of the case, noting that its mainland service had been managed by local firm Alibaba since October.
