Google re-examines principles

As reports of blocks on Google's main search engine spread, one of its founders told AP the company was not entirely convinced the self-censorship deal it made in China was the right approach. Google co-founder Sergey Brin said, in retrospect, "perhaps now a principled approach makes more sense" than the deal made to set up google.cn. The China-wide search engine is explicitly censored and does not provide links to sites the government considers sensitive or harmful to society. Until now, however, Google's main search engine had been fully accessible. Lately, however, reports have spread of blocks for growing periods of time and in more areas of China. Google said it is investigating.
