China again rejects NK resolution

China once again rejected a UN resolution on sanctions against North Korea, international media reported. This second rejection by China, North Korea's main ally in the region, appeared to dash hopes of quick action after the country launched seven missiles into the sea last week. A Chinese foreign ministry announcement said the resolution, co-sponsored by Japan and the US, was an "overreaction". China has already circulated an alternative, a non-binding presidential statement calling for voluntary sanctions on missiles and weapons of mass destruction. The Security Council postponed voting yesterday. Separate talks are ongoing between North Korea, South Korea, China and the United States.
