Product quality still a problem

More than 20% of 8,800 goods tested in a government survey failed to meet the required quality standards, it was announced Thursday. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, which carried out the survey, admitted that food safety, counterfeiting and poorly-made products remain a big problem in China. �It is a just and true reflection of the level of the country's product quality as well as our productivity and technological advancement,� vice-minister Pu Changcheng said of the survey, the South China Morning Post reported. The authorities seized fake products worth US$238 million in the first half of the year as a result of investigations into more than 100,000 cases involving counterfeit or substandard goods.
