China's budget hotels booming

China's budget hotels are booming. The Financial Times reported that both international and domestic hotel operators have opened a wave of cheap and clean hotels across the country. The new breed of hotels, typically priced at between US$17-US$26 per room, are already popular with tourists on a budget and business travelers whose employers insist on modest accomodation, the newspaper said. Last year, there were some 600 budget hotels in China with average occupancy rates of 85-96%. Traditional guesthouses, the only cheap alternative previously available in China, are generally only half full.
