Hu calms Pakistan after India visit

Chinese President Hu Jintao pledged continued co-operation for Pakistan's nuclear energy program and signed an ambitious trade agreement in meetings with Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in Pakistan over the weekend, the Financial Times reported. The visit followed a trip to India last week. The nuclear agreement counters a similar nuclear agreement between the US and India. Hu also pledged further collaboration on Pakistan's emerging arms manufacturing industry. Chinese and Pakistani officials said the trade agreement could triple annual bilateral trade to at least US$15 billion in five years. The countries also outlined a shared commitment to greater cross-border investment, joint development of energy resources and combating terrorism and regional instability.
