Censors tighten online grip

Distributors may have to check the contents of online games for banned
religious or political material following new rules announced Tuesday.
Quoting state media, Associated Press said distributors now have to
get approvals to release new games and submit monthly monitoring
reports. The notice of the new rules was issued by the Press and
Publications Administration. "A rash of problems with imported online
games, some of which contain sensitive religious material or refer to
territorial disputes" prompted the crackdown, state media reported. At
the same time, the Ministry of Culture has ordered internet companies
to get approval for foreign music they make available, the Financial
Times reported. The rules were issued last month but posted this week.
