Hu: senior cadres face corruption probe

President Hu Jintao said Tuesday that senior cadres would not fall beyond the reach of the Communist Party's anti-graft drive, the South China Morning Post reported. "It's of extreme importance and urgency to vigorously advocate the work ethic of party leaders and senior cadres," Hu said during the seventh plenary session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. He said the party still has an "arduous fight against corruption" ahead of it. Hu's comments may signal Beijing's intention to intensify its anti-corruption campaign among senior officials from the central and local governments. The campaign launched in June last year has already led to the fall of several high-ranking figures, including Shanghai party chief Chen Liangyu.
