Anheuser-Busch, the US brewer, is to build a US$63 million brewery in the southern province of Guangdong as part of an effort to double sales of Budweiser in China over the next five years. The brewery, which will have a production capacity of 2.6 million hectoliters, is scheduled for completion in late 2008, state media reported. Anheuser-Busch intends to bring Budweiser to a further 150 million potential drinkers by supplying 100 new cities with populations of at least one million. It will also expand the coverage of Harbin beer - the local brand it bought in 2005 - to 33 new markets in 2007. Anheuser-Busch has invested more than US$1.8 billion in China. The Chinese beer market saw its third consecutive year of double-digit volume growth in 2006.
