Germany-based Siemens has begun a five-year, US$10 million healthcare project aimed at improving access to good quality healthcare services for people in rural areas of China. The project will be initially rolled out in Luochuan County in Yan'an, Shaanxi province, state media reported. Siemens will equip the county-level hospital with a full range of diagnostic imaging equipment including ultrasound, X-ray and CT machines. The company will also provide medical and other training to support the education of physicians at the hospital, along with installing water treatment equipment to prevent health threats to the environment from the hospital's wastewater.
