Donald Tsang gets official nod

Hong Kong's chief executive got the official nod from Beijing for a second term Monday after an election last month, AFP reported. Tsang received a "book of appointment" during a ceremony in Beijing, stated media reports and Premier Wen Jiabao said Tsang should continue to focus "on improving people's living standards, pursuing social harmony and promoting democracy." President Hu Jintao pledged to support the Special Administrative Region, saying: "You have to work hard to accomplish things in Hong Kong... The central government will support Hong Kong." Speaking to the media afterwards, Tsang said he plans to resolve questions of universal suffrage during his new term in office. "My pledge had been in the manifesto during the election that I would resolve completely the question of universal suffrage elections for the Chief Executive and the legislature," Tsang said. "That proposal, that pledge, is fully supportd by the president and the premier."
