Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng was reappointed as deputy secretary of the Communist Party yesterday, after a corruption case led to the dismissal of the city's previous party secretary, Chen Liangyu, the South China Morning Post reported. A new line-up of cabinet members includes the appointment of 10 more members to the party's powerful standing committee. The sacking of Mr Chen has been widely viewed as a political purge by president Hu Jintao in a bid to exercise more power over Shanghai and other members of the "Shanghai faction".
