Inter-city subway underway in Guangdong

Construction will begin work on an inter-city subway linking Guangzhou and Foshan in south China's Guangdong province on Thursday, Xinhua reported (in Chinese). The subway line will shorten travel time between Foshan city and downtown Guangzhou to about 40 minutes, down from 50 minutes. At an estimated cost of US$1.9 billion, the subway has 21 stops and will go into operation in 2012. The line will be linked to four subway lines in Guangzhou.
