Hepatitis B carriers sue Foxconn for discrimination

Four prospective employees of Taiwanese computer giant Foxconn are suing the company claiming job discrimation, the South China Morning Post reported. The four workers are hepatitis B carriers. The case, to be heard in a Shenzhen court, is the first of its kind in the city. The four are college graduates from Guangdong, Hunan, Shanxi and Hubei. They filed suit in the Baoan District People's Court accusing the Fukui Precision Components (Shenzhen) Company and the Hongfujin Precision Industry Company, subsidaries of Foxconn, of rescinding job offers earlier this year because they carry the hepatitis B virus. The four say they passed all the interviews but were denied employment after testing positive. They are demanding about US$2,600 in compensation each. Foxconn has said it will respect mainland law and abide by any court orders.
