The People's Liberation Army (PLA) will set up a special unit to combat possible terrorism threats during the 2008 Olympics such as biochemical and nuclear terror attacks and monitor the airspace and sea around the areas where events will take place, state media reported. "It is international practice for military forces to participate in security for Olympic games," Tian Yixiang, director of the military bureau for the Beijing Olympics security command center said. Under the security plan, the PLA will also be responsible for preventing human rights and separatist groups from gaining access into the games.
