Chery boosts sales in Russia
4 July 2007
Despite technical barriers, policy and foreign currency risks and cultural conflicts, Chery Auto's first-quarter sales of 6,656 units ranked twelfth on Russia's auto sales list, the Economic Observer reported (in Chinese). Russia has become the largest overseas market for the Anhui-based auto maker, which is increasingly seeking to explore overseas markets. According to Si Fenghuo, Chery Russia's director, Chery's sales in the first five months hit 16,239 units. Chery has a manufacturing facility in Kaliningrad with a monthly capacity of 4,000 units, though still not enough to meet market demand. The company also made a deal with DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group to build cars for export under the Chrysler brand name. A signing ceremony for the deal will take place today.
